Trick or Treat!

We (mostly 'I') debated back and forth on whether or not to participate during Halloween this year, therefore setting the precedent for future years.  On one hand, you don't have to look hard to see how Halloween has become a gruesome, evil holiday even among young children.  On the other hand, its easy to keep the activities family oriented.  So we (mostly 'I') decided that we could trick or treat with the housebound neighbor lady (she loves the kids!), Grandma and Papa's house, and a few stops in Eddyville without being overcome with the less attractive nature of the "holiday".  Just like with Christmas and being able to exchange gifts without being totally absorbed into the worldly side of things, we played dress up and got some treats while visiting with family and friends.

I refuse to buy costumes, so Caleb was a homemade lumberjack.  The suspenders were Josh's when he was a lad and the axe came from a party favor tool belt from a friend's birthday party.  These two things added to a pair of jeans, his hat and a flannel shirt and we have Paul Bunyan almost in the flesh!  I though the beard was a cute touch.  You can't see it, but we also added a little chest hair poking out of his shirt just for laughs.

If there were ever a princess deer caught in the headlights, this is what she would look like.

Sarah Rose donned her Easter dress from this past Easter (with a pretty pink long sleeve shirt under it) to become a princess.  We had plenty of accessories from her dress up basket and with a little lipstick on her already pretty pink lips and smudged on her cheeks along with princess hair, she was transformed into the most princess-y of all princesses.

Being silly!

Being cheesy.
(It is so cute when they do their model poses!)

Aren't they just the cutest things?  No wonder the neighbor lady likes 'em!   ;-)

Princess hair!

She actually let me French braid several braids into her hair and then bun 'em.  I think I was more excited than she was!

We made our few stops, ended up with plenty of candy and had a great time....and still got into bed in plenty of time for school the next day!
