Farm kids. Gotta love 'em.

The kids each have a scooter. But sometimes a scooter just isn't enough. That's when you put both scooters beside each other, put a disc blade over both, and tow it with your tractor.
Creative genius-ness at work. |

One grand Saturday afternoon found us pulling out posts. These bad boys were 6x6 (ish?) and stuck in the ground for a good four feet. And had been there for years and years. So we wrapped a chain around each one and pulled it out with the loader of the tractor. The kids were right in there helping. In fact, they enjoyed helping so much they argued about whose turn it was to be the one to assist. |

Caleb was pretty good at it. He's just big enough that he could handle it. |
|
And Sarah tried her hardest, but.... |
|
....her poor little arms were just not quite long enough to reach all the way around. She kept at it though, and with a little help from Mama, she was able to link each one of "her" posts. |

Completely off topic, but same day related:
This was also the day that I sadly had to officially retire my tennis shoes. I've had these choose since before I started college, which was 2000. They've treated me well. But the sole is now completely off the front part right one, there are holes all around both of them and the laces have been concreted in place with mud (and more....we live on a farm, after all) for a couple years now. But I'd say that 15 years is a decent life for a pair of shoes.
It is with deep regret that I say "Good bye, Shoes. You've been appreciated."
(Now I have to buy new shoes. I HATE shopping and I HATE new shoes.) |

On another day, we had to assist Josh in changing tires on equipment. The kids took advantage of having the tractor sit idle. (Be assured, it wasn't running.) |
|
On yet another day, we were called to help Josh get unstuck. A neighbor had asked him to disc along side his garden and it ended up being a wee bit wetter once in the garden area than it looked like from standing outside the garden area. As soon as the disc hit it, the whole rig just sank. So I was in the front tractor pulling Josh and his tractor and disc out of the mud.
When we got back to the yard, Caleb's bike magically got stuck in the mud, too! Imagine that! So Sarah came along with her tractor and log chain and rescued Caleb. I don't know if you can make out the chain, but they had it hooked on between the back of the tractor and the wheel brace of the bike.
I love how the kids watch what we do and imitate it. But it's also a good lesson and reminder that they watch what we do and imitate it! As parents, we have to be careful in everything we do and say to be sure that we're raising our children to become the Godly adults we desire them to be!
When we finished up the rescue mission, I asked Sarah what she thought of Mommy pulling Daddy out of the mud. She thought it was just great. Later, I asked Caleb what he thought. His reply: "Well, it would have been cooler if Daddy had been pulling Mommy out of the mud." I guess he didn't like the fact that Dad was stuck and Mom was the rescuer! But at least he no longer gets agitated when I drive the tractors and do "boy's work". We've come a long way in the past few years. I remember when he would cry if I started doing something that was a boy's job. He's learning! :-) |
