Birthday (x2)

Caleb's birthday is February 12 and Sarah's is just six days later on February 18.  So we thought that a combined party will do just fine until they get a bit older.  We celebrated on Saturday for the two of them and here are some of the highlights.

Both of the kids love Curious George, so picking a theme was pretty easy!  They were surprised to be greeted by Curious George wishing them a happy birthday when they came downstairs Saturday morning.  (I know I'm not a great artist, but I was pretty pleased with how George came out!)

Sarah Rose reeeeeealy likes George!  She'll go up and kiss him over and over!  And just gaze into his eyes.  Maybe its a good thing its still up for Valentine's Day!

Josh and I decorated for their birthday on Friday night after the kiddos went to sleep.  Josh blew up the balloons and I strung the streamers.

First we'll remember Caleb's part of the party:

Going to Happy Joes in Ottumwa has become sort of a tradition for Caleb's birthday.  The primary reason for going is for the train the runs around the perimeter of the room if you put a quarter in its machine. And what did I forget to take a picture of.... the train, of course.  But here's Caleb waiting patiently for the pizza.

Three generations of Van Zante men.  And boy, can they put the pizza away!

At Happy Joes, kids get a free dish of ice cream if its their birthday.  Well, I shouldn't say 'free'... they must endure a siren drawing the rest of the restaurant's attention, announcement of their name and age, the whole restaurant singing "Happy Birthday" and then the siren again!  Caleb does not do well with attention, so he was well deserving of his birthday ice cream!

Caleb trying to put the ice cream into the cone...

....and the proceeding to try to suck the ice cream through his drinking straw.

Okay, now Sarah Rose:

POP!!!  My kids get pop only on special occasions, and this was indeed special!

Sarah's turn at getting the birthday attention.  Looks like she will follow in the footsteps of her older brother concerning her lack of love for attention!  After they sang to her, she wanted nothing to do with the ice cream treat...

Or DID she?.....

Nope!  She wouldn't eat a bite... it was tainted with bad memories of sirens and honking birthday horns!

And then it was back home for birthday cake and ice cream:

I have the best lookin' family!  I just want to hug 'em and squeeze 'em and kiss 'em all!

You think that look is "Ooooh!  Birthday cake!"  Um, no...its actually the look of "Oooooh, fire! and they let me get this close!"

The true partyers of the family!
