Ecclesiastes tells us "there is a time for everything, a season for every activity under heaven". And while its hard for the kids and I to get in on too much of the action during planting season, we try to take advantage of the harvest season to spend some time with Daddy.

There goes my two favorite fellas. Caleb is such a good helper and already says he wants to be a farmer when he grows up. |
After Sarah and I sent the guys off to work, she settled in for a little nap. |
When she finally woke up, it was time for Sarah and I to meet up with Josh and Caleb in the combine. This is the combine that Josh's Grandpa Elmer bought many, many years ago. It has harvested every Van Zante crop since. No air conditioning, radio/CD player, buddy seat, GPS, ... a real farmer's machine meant to do its job! |
Josh remembers him and Loren bringing the combine home from the dealer when Josh was Caleb's age. So its neat for him to be able to have his son ride with him now. |

Checking out the yield. (View from the driver's seat via Caleb.) |

Sarah sat on my lap and held on to the window brace the entire time. It was a hot ride, but she enjoyed it. |
Awwww. |
John Deere hat and shirt, yet we were in a red combine. Do you think we should tell him? |
Group shot. |
The kids and I finally got so hot we had to take a break from the ride, but Caleb still had part in the action! Here he is on his beloved dirt pile, watching Josh unload. |
The little pile of spilled corn kept Sarah more entertained than anything else we did that day. |

Caleb safety checking. |
