The kids, especially Sarah Rose, have always loved looking through our Bibles. They have a story Bible (thanks, Kelley... it still gets used!) they look through often, our devotion study Bible that stays by our side table in the living room that I'm never surprised to see them using, and then our church Bibles (that are "church" Bibles because they are the traditional King James translation as opposed to the more contemporary translation found in our study Bible) that are almost always looked at in the car whenever we are going to and from church. Now that Caleb is a solid reader (reading FANTASTIC!!!), I decided it was time for them to have their own Bibles. About the time I started looking for a children's Bible I liked, our church implemented a new children's church curriculum that really emphasized children, with their families, getting to know and love their Bibles. Great timing!
So I looked and looked, but never quite found what I liked in the price range I could afford two of. I wanted New King James (to avoid confusion by the thee's, thou's, ye's, etc. found in the regular King James since they are young readers) and one that was simple and straight forward. Finally, I found one that suited my kids' needs: King James (like I mentioned), hard cover, sturdy binding, thick pages, important date record in front, nice font and the "extra" pages are specifically written to explain important concepts to kids! I was thrilled!
So, I ordered them and we presented the kids with their Bibles one evening after supper. They were just as thrilled as me (and Josh, but mostly me!). Precious moments:
The kids looked through their Bibles with Daddy. They were quite excited to see their very own names in them and Caleb was just as excited when he found the table of contents! |
Absolutely priceless. |
Caleb discovered the maps, so he and Daddy had a little teaching moment. |
So sweet. My kids really are best friends! (Those are Bible covers I made for them from fabric I had on hand!) |
