Happy Birthday Cake, Hamburger Style!

When there's a birthday in our family, I try to make a special cake for the birthday boy or girl to help make the celebration a special one.  I'm no Ace of Cakes (yet), but I'm getting better!  Josh's 34th (oops, did I type his age out loud?!?!) birthday was October 15th and, sure enough, he got himself a special cake.

Josh enjoys his bacon burgers every once in a while.  So my big idea was to make a bacon burger cake.  However, do you see anything missing?  Yep, the bacon!  This was the first time I made a cake like this one and I kinda messed up a bit: I stacked the layers (with frosting between, of course, so they were impossible to take apart) and then decorated with the cheese, burger patties, lettuce and condiments.  What I should have done was to add the components of the burger as I stacked the layers.  If I had done this, I would have been able to do a much neater job and, more importantly, would have been able to get the bacon on the burger.  But I think it turned out pretty cute for winging it without tips or pictures. Anyway, experience is the best teacher and the next one will be terrific!

There's my birthday honey with his surprise burger cake, hold the tomato and onion please and thank you!

The kids always get a birthday crown for their birthday and so wanted to make Daddy one, too.  We had a great time of celebration with Josh's parents and look forward to another year of blessings that  Josh brings into our lives as the Godly man, husband and father that he is.
