And That Makes Five

Thursday, March 1st, I had the pleasure of having another photo featured on WHO Channel 13's Photolink.

If you remember, the day before this (Wednesday) was extremely windy.  That was because we were between two fronts, or two systems, that was making the weather unsteady and turbulent.  The warm front finally moved through overnight, causing the winds to change directions from coming from the northwest (that nasty cold wind we were getting) to coming from the south (that brought the more pleasant, "warmer" breezes Thursday and Friday).   We just happened to catch the change in the wind direction in a picture!  When the wind was coming from the northwest, the steam from the power plant was blowing southeast (as seen by the "old" steam in the upper level of the steam column).  When the direction of the wind changed, the "new" steam (the lower level on the steam column) started blowing to the north. (The upper steam eventually did, too, it just took a while.  Alot of it evaporated before it had a chance to switch direcions.)  So we saw the steam blowing in two different directions at the same time.  The sunrise in the background makes it even more pretty.

And despite what Ed Wilson said, this is steam not smoke.  Not that its a big deal, but it just makes ME feel better knowing that the big cloud we live by is steam from the water coolers, not smoke from a cancer maker :-)
