Game Night

Or, alternatively titled "The World's Longest Game of Yahtzee".

With the recent change in time comes the inevitable long winter evenings.  The new early darkness has us once again pulling out our winter pastimes: an occasional bedtime movie, stack upon stacks of library books, indoor hide 'n' seek/tag, "exercise time" and board games... just to name a few favorites.  (If you ever need a good laugh, have a two and four year old try to do sit ups... hilarious!)  Anyway...

Up until now, we've always stuck with CandyLand and Chutes and Ladders for the board games.  But recently, to save Mama's sanity from yet one more round of the kiddie games, we've introduced Yahtzee.  It was a great hit!  We've only played two nights, but the kids love it!

It all started out nice.  First Caleb rolled....

...and then Sarah Rose.

But by the second roll, things got competitive!

They tried their hardest to roll the best scores.  Can't you see all the effort they were putting into rolling high numbers?  Its written all over their face!

Josh checking out what Caleb rolled for him... is it good?  is it bad?  Hmmm....

Discussing team strategy.  The teams were Caleb and Josh vs. Sarah Rose and me.

Can you tell someone's having a good time?  What a little cheese.  He almost looks as dorky as Spongebob in the background.   ;-)

There is no sitting still for Caleb.  In between rolls, he was always squirming around doing something.  First, he started gymnastics on Daddy's legs...

...followed by practicing his softball pitch...

....the silliness continued into the rolls....

...I think he's cheering/howling for high numbers?....

...and then off to check out the toy shelves.   The kid is never still for more than two minutes.  If he is, I check to see if he's feeling okay (seriously).

And this is what happens when Mama tries to take a picture of a very tired winner.  We were trying to keep Sarah up until at least 7:00, the start of our bedtime routine.  This was taken just a few minutes before 7:00 and as you can tell, she was very ready for bed!

BUT... us girls DID when!  Better luck next time, fellas ;-)
