Beautiful Saturday! Part Two

So, the rest of Saturday.  After we played on the tire swing, we took a little break to do a few chores with Josh:

The lot where we keep the sows has its feeding area fenced in with guardrails from highway construction.  The edges are nice and blunt (enough) to make the perfect climbing spot for Caleb.  He's looking over the edge watching the sows eat the food that was just dumped.

Nose to snout.  Do you see the sow on the other side of the guard rail.  This didn't last long...due to a very protective mama warning her son that if he got too close the sow might snap at him.

And while Josh was feeding and watering one of  the bulls, Caleb got a chance at the Jeep's steering wheel.  The latest movie that we've let Caleb watch was Cars.  So of course, he was racing the Jeep...complete with swerves, near wrecks and sound effects.  Josh just can't wait to take him to Knoxville.  I knew that one day this time would come, but so soon?
After choring, Josh moved on to a less kid friendly job and we were left to find entertainment on our own.

The job Joshua moved on to was sharpening the knives in the silage chopper.  Loren and Josh work hundreds of hours throughout the summer and fall chopping hay, corn silage and stalks for livestock feed, so I'm sure that will be many blog posts this summer.  Do you see the piece of equipment with the yellow spout that he is bending over ?  That is the chopper.  Its fitted with many "knives" that chop whatever is being harvested into tiny pieces.  He was sharpening those knives in preparation for the first cutting of hay...maybe even next week!

And while he started on that job, the kids and I gathered the eggs and then got distracted on the way back across the yard with...

...mud puddles!!!  What kid can resist a mud puddle?

The driveway up to the shed is littered with giant rocks.  The kids would run back and forth up the driveway in search of the biggest rocks they could carry to throw as hard as they could into the puddles.  The two big puddles in the lower drive is now filled in with big rocks.  I didn't get a picture of the huge splashes they made, despite several attempts, but...

...the look on Caleb's face pretty well sums up the fun they had.

And after a very long time playing in the puddle and one chicken chase later, it was time to head to the house for supper (grilled chicken, scalloped potatoes, cucumbers and cantelope), bath and bed.  It was a busy Saturday and we loved every minute of it!
