I went for a long time and didn't blog about anything. Which is okay, I guess. There really wasn't anything exciting to share, so I just didn't do it. And it's not like the world is hanging on to the edge of their seats wondering what the Van Zantes have been up to. But not too long ago, I told myself I was going to start appreciating all the small things in life. It doesn't have to be exciting and grand, it just has to be.... us.
So, here's to the small things in life!

A few weeks ago, Caleb found a practical joke "article" in an old Highlights magazine. He found a prank that he was determined to play on Josh on April Fool's Day. The boy counted down the days until April 1st as though it were his birthday or Christmas Day! So as soon as Josh left for the morning, we made up the Jello, poured it in mason jars (the only clear glass things I thought would withstand the heat), stuck in a straw and chilled them with the idea that they would look like a glass of fruit punch.
I didn't have to call the kids in to help set the table for me that day.... they were right there, begging for the time to come to start! It was kinda obviously that it was Jello, so I secretly told Josh to play along. When he sat down at the table, he was "excited" that we were having punch instead of water and after we prayed, he took a big drink! They kids were nearly bouncing in their seats with anticipation during prayer and when he finally drank, it was about all they could take! The fits of giggles at the table was pure magic. Of course, Josh hammed it up quite a bit which made it even more fun.
Kids sure are great. |

The foot on the right is Caleb's. The foot on the left is mine. It's official: I can now wear my eight year old son's shoes. These shoes are a bit tight and uncomfortable, but I could wear them if I had to. His workboots, though... different story: same size, but much more comfortable. Must be the shape. But anyhoo...
I have learned that when I need to buy everyday shoes, which I kinda sorta do (did you see my last post about the fifteen year old shoes going bye-bye?), I'm just going to shop in the boys department! SO much cheaper! |
Here's to the small things!
