Another round of pictures that don't warrant a post of their own.
Let's begin, shall we?
First, trying the curlers....
|
For Easter Sunday, we tried curling Sarah's hair with my hot rollers. Usually when we curl Sarah's hair, we use a curling iron and lots and lots and lots of special salon bought extreme strength hair spray used solely for the purpose of curling her hair. But I thought we'd try this. It didn't work. Despite the tenderness of removal and lots of hairspray, her hair is so naturally straight that the curls fell within ten minutes. Oh, well.... we tried.
I have so much hair that the curlers won't work in mine either. Yet I still hang on to them, thinking that some magical day we'll both wear curlers and have beautiful curly locks. |
And then there's the pictures of my injuries from when Josh hit me with the truck...
|
Okay, so he didn't actually hit me. More accurately, he asked me to get out of the truck and help him back up the trailer into a driveway so he wouldn't back into his grandmother's awkwardly placed mailbox when we were helping his mother clean out her mother's house. (Did you follow all that?) I jumped out (of course with the truck still slightly moving... that's what we do, you know!), and the slightest incline of the hill caused the door to swing shut faster than usual and the corner of it got my leg.
But that's not as exciting as Josh hitting me with the truck.
Its not the first time, nor am I the first person, this has happened to. Its not the greatest picture (darned if you flash, darned if you don't), but this is the knot and bruise two days after. It was about the size of my fist. |
|
Four days later and its beginning to shrink a little and turn that really narly yellow and green color. The kids are freaked out by it and refuse to touch it, probably thinking their fingers will fall off if they do. |
On to sweeter things....
|
Our family received this plant from Josh's Grandpa Elmer's funeral. It's a huge beautiful Peace Lily given by Elmer's brother Raymond's family. When we received it, it had two flowers partially in bloom. But after they bloomed, I was really concerned that I'd never see another bloom from it again. While I can grow any vine just fine, I'm notorious for killing flowering houseplants. But guess what?!?!..... |
|
WE HAVE ANOTHER BLOOM!!!!!
I didn't kill it!!!! I'm so excited!!!!
And relieved!
By the way, the daisies are fake flowers the florist put in there to add a pop of color. |
Now, how about cupcakes...
|
Normally when I bake, the kids are underfoot asking to lick things. This time, however, you can see who it was.
After lunch today, I had to quickly make some frosting and then frost the cupcakes I made yesterday to pack up and send with the thermos of coffee for afternoon coffeetime. (Rhonda and I split turns packing and sending coffeetimes out for they guys. Our men are spoiled.) Josh sat in his chair after lunch and watched the whole process from across the kitchen, finally wheeling himself over (he was in a roll-y chair) and just sat at my side until I was done with the whisk so he could lick it clean.
After a bit of teasing, I finally gave him a whole frosted cupcake. Chocolate with peanut butter butter cream frosting, by the way. Fifteen minutes later, he had watched the ag report on the news and was out the door with six cupcakes packed (two for each fella: Papa Loren, Josh and Caleb) and a thermos of coffee.
Please pretend you don't see my kitchen is cluttered with dirty dishes. Like I said, it was right after lunch and the priority was getting the cupcakes done. The dishes were done in no time afterwards!
Speaking of baking... |
|
My bread pan bit the dust. I was not a happy camper when I went to get my dough and it was contaminated with ucky stuff!
This is my breadmaker's bread pan. Look just beneath the bread pan. That little round thing there is the bread pan's rubber gasket and that little puddle is oozy brown water that came out after the gasket did. I think all the metal filings ended up in the dough.
I only use my breadmaker to mix the dough while I multitask doing other things. And while I could probably do more baking than I do, I certainly already do my share. I've already ordered the replacement part (had to get a whole new bread pan), and until then, I guess I'll just be kneading the old fashioned way... by hand. |
Getting our hair done....
|
One of Sarah's new hobbies is doing our hair. Josh is such a good Daddy to let Sarah fix his hair over and over. If memory serves me correctly, he was watching some ag program on T.V. with Caleb and Sarah was there doing his hair. And yes, its very normal for her to wear her crown and gloves around the house! She's a princess, don't ya know?! |
And lastly....
|
Earlier, I did a post in which I mentioned Caleb's willingness to shove his sister down a hill to approve the construction of an airplane... and Sarah's willingness to do it. This is mid-construction of that airplane. Look at Sarah's face as she's working that rubber mallet!
Also, in the background you can see the truck that Josh hit me with ;-) |
Boy, Josh kinda took a lot of ribbing this go 'round, didn't he? It's all in good fun. I love him. And trust me, I get my fair share at home!
