I'm not really one for having favorites. BUT I do have a favorite season for crafting with the kids... and that would definitely have to be the Thanksgiving/Christmas season. So many ideas!
Ever since Caleb was old enough to comprehend the idea, we've always done a thankful turkey leading up to Thanksgiving. What's a thankful turkey? I'm so glad you asked! Take a look-see:

I think this is our third (possibly fourth?) year we've done a thankful turkey. We start with a turkey body with no feathers. Everyday leading up to Thanksgiving, we write something on a feather that we're thankful for, decorate it and add it to our turkey. I think in the past, we've always done a family turkey, so this year the kids are enjoying making their very own turkeys! By the time the day arrives, we should have about 17 feathers! |
The general routine is that the kids and I do our feathers as part of our school work and then we get Daddy's feather and the crayons/markers all ready for him to do his after lunch and before he heads back outdoors. Its always fun to watch kids try to come up with things they are thankful for. So far, we've only done three things (today will be the fourth), so they aren't stuck for ideas yet. But after they've listed Mommy, Daddy, each other, toys, food and home, we'll see what happens!
Also during school, we've been focusing our journal pages everyday on being thankful. The kids either have a question to answer or a verse to copy from the board about being thankful. And of course we always discuss it. Its been a good way to really make them stop and think about just how much they DO have to be thankful for! Its never to early to establish a heart of thankfulness for the blessings we have!
So yes, Thanksgiving is foremost about our gratitude. But we have to throw some fun in there, too:

Have you ever seen a cuter couple of turkey heads? |
