Christmas Sweets

I thought about and even announced that I was not doing any baking this holiday season, after all we get plenty of baked goods the rest of the year!  But it was requested that I make sugar cookies, fudge, candy pretzels and caramels.  The fudge, pretzels and caramels are all a one woman job, but the sugar cookies had definite potential for a family adventure!

Caleb was feeling kinda tough on the day we made the sugar cookie dough, so while he rested us girls had fun in the kitchen.  Sarah Rose was all about using the mixer, as you can tell.  (Don't worry, its off and Sarah proof!)

So the next day, we baked the cookies.  Just so happened that Sarah was feeling kinda tough this day so Caleb and I had some Mama-Son bonding in the kitchen.

Poor kid needs to learn to smile for the camera!  Despite the odd look, he really was having a fun time cutting out all the cookies for me to place on the baking sheet.

A three year old's patience for waiting for cookies only lasts so long....

All glazed up and ready to decorate.

Coloring the frosting.  I had seven empty bowls, so Caleb chose seven colors.

Admiring our hard work.  I used the coloring gels I use when decorating cakes, which are really strong and dye everything in sight.  I fully expected to end the 'job' with four severely dyed hands and two miscolored mouths and ruined clothing.  But the kids did a pretty good job, thankfully!

So after many, many pictures of Caleb closing his eyes during the flash, he came up with this solution.  Can't close his eyes when they're being held open!  (Notice the dyed fingers mouth!)

Every color of the rainbow!

Sarah decided she's rather lay on my shoulder, so the decorating was left up to the guys.  (Josh will be so pleased I put this on here for the world to see...HAHAHAHA!!!!  Love you, Honey!)

Mmmmmm...lookin' tasty!

And here they are, all set out nice and pretty.  We do a pretty good job - I think Santa will approve, though I doubt there will be any left by then!
