Carvin' Punkins with my Punkins

Tis the season to start traditions.  Last night, we took the pumpkins that we'd been using as decorations and carved them up. Caleb was in charge of designing the faces, while Josh and I carved with Sarah standing by to make sure we were all doing it right.  We make a great team!

Getting ready. This is the first year we've made jack-o-lanterns, so the kids really didn't know what to expect.

Sarah wasted no time digging in to the mess.  Caleb, on the other hand, was a little more timid.  Sarah loves anything messy, rough and tumble!

On one of the pumpkins that Caleb designed, he decided to have pupils.  (Caleb is a very detailed three year old!)  Since there was no way we could get the knife to cut the pupils out, we used our creative geniuses and used a screwdriver.  Caleb caught right on.  (Note:  please ignore the fact that Sarah is picking her nose.)

The pumpkin goo kept Sarah busy during the carving.  She played with it the entire time.

Caleb had no use for the goo.  At one point, I thought he was going to lose his supper.  But we made it through.

Showing off our handiwork.  Caleb is such a cheese and Sarah loves every minute of it.  If you could only hear her giggle through the picture.  One of the pumpkins had developed a soft spot, so instead of carving it, we decided to paint it.

Caleb wanted one pumpkin with square eyes, round nose and triangle mouth - which turned out pretty cute.  Then he wanted a scary one with mean eyes and sharp teeth.  But the painted one was just random and by luck turned out okay.

With the lights out.

After making the jack-o-lanterns,  I gave the kids a bath, put on their johnnies, read books and then had Bible time.  All the excitement must have worn Caleb out, because halfway through Bible time he fell asleep.  I'm not sure why he chose to hang his head off the couch, but it must have been comfortable because he has only fallen asleep during Bible time once before and then he was sick.  I know Revelation is hard to understand, but is it really THIS bad?
