Another post about my darling Sarah Rose. Sarah has a wide range of talents and interests, even at the early age of three and a half. She can be utmost girly-girl one minute, and literally the next minute be in Caleb's hand-me-downs being all tom-boy. Let me show you:
On this particular day, mine and Sarah's (Sarah's and my? Sarah's and mine? this one's got me stumped!) first task of the afternoon was to make a pumpkin pie:
Homemade crust, of course.
(I'm a "jack of all trades, master of <almost> none"... I may not be great at many tasks, but homemade pie crusts is ONE thing that I'm GOOD at!) |
The filling. This particular recipe was an adaptation of Paula Deen's recipe for pumpkin pie made with cream cheese. (The adaption: less (read: no) butter and less sugar.) |
Cleaning up. Sarah really does enjoy helping me do anything in the kitchen, including doing the dishes. |
Checking on the pie. This was an important day in Sarah's life, as it was the first time she was ever allowed to open the oven door and check inside! She was pretty excited! |
Ta-da! Delicious Punkin' Pie. |
After the pie came out of the oven, it was time to do a few odds and ends outside:
A girl and her Oreos. Gotta have snack time, right? She contentedly ate her cookies while I planted a few hosta bulbs that had been handed down to us.
Then.... |
...it was time to hang out with Daddy for a while. If memory serves me correctly, we took Daddy a Coke in the field and rode around with him in the tractor for a while. |
After the tractor ride, Josh was busy doing something that we couldn't really participate in (what, I don't know!), so we went back home to play a while. The sandbox is a favorite! Sarah LOVES to dig and pour, pretending to "bake". Notice she has some company sitting on the log just behind her. That's the kitten I "allowed" the family to keep from the first batch of kittens this spring. He's aptly named: Drought. And Mama Moose is to the left in the picture. |
The corn she proudly brought back as a souvenir from the field. |
We eventually got a call from Josh needing our assistance. So we hopped in the Jeep and went for a ride. She looks pretty comfy, huh? |
And then it was time for Mommy to have a little fun with Daddy. Its kinda hard to see in this picture, but when it was time to park the Jeep, I parked it with its front bumper right up next to another vehicle in the shop and then pulled the four wheeler up to the back bumper so that it was touching it. While doing this, I thought to myself how upset Josh would be if he got a call about cows being out or something and had to leave in a hurry. Guess what? That evening, he DID get a call about the cows!!!! Thankfully, he needed the four wheeler instead of the Jeep, so I was safe. Phew! |
You may be asking yourself where Caleb is during all of this. Well, he keeps busy "working" with Daddy and Papa and so was with them all afternoon.
