Happy Third Birthday, Sarah Rose!

Just a short six days after Caleb's birthday is Sarah Rose's birthday; they are two years, five days and 12 hours apart... roughly!  (They would be a little farther apart - more like a month - but Caleb was two weeks overdue and Sarah was born a week early.)  So, we repeated the whole process of decorating the night before, exchanging the Cars theme for a Strawberry Shortcake one.  (And nope, no big party for Sarah... when she turns the big '5', we'll invite her friends over!)

We decorated with pink streamers and balloons (a strawberry shortcake and big #3!), Strawberry Shortcake party hats, plates, glasses and napkins.

And when she came down the next morning, she was pretty pleased!  She asked many times every day for a month if it was her birthday yet.  Well, the morning finally came when she asked and I could tell her that indeed it was!  In fact, we all sang "Happy Birthday" to her as we cuddled in bed before heading downstairs and the smile on her face was precious!

She was pleased... but maybe not quite all the way awake yet!

The decor, which was purchased along with Caleb's birthday decor making good use of that coupon I had!

The cake.  And there's a story:  the cake didn't come out quite like I had planned for two reasons.  The first reason was that Sarah Rose was helping me decorate it.  And since she was helping and it was her cake, I let her have some input and help pipe some.  And the second reason is that I didn't have enough powdered sugar to make enough frosting to carry out my really cute plan.  It was suppose to be mostly white with a pink top and green and red accents.  But I made the colored frostings with the first batch of frosting I made, not reserving any white and not realizing that I didn't have enough sugar to make another batch.  Oh well.  She liked it and as long as the birthday girl liked it, everything was okay.

The cake was strawberry (of course!), four layers with homemade strawberry filling between the first and second and the third and fourth, with a vanilla buttercream between the second and third.  I'm not a big cake fan, but I took a couple of bites and it was tasty!

Stay tuned for the rest of the celebration in another post... Caleb and Sarah's joint pizza party!
