I have had a few mothers tell me they would like to do a blog but they don't know where they would find the time. Well, allow me to share with you how I "find the time" to blog...
MULTITASKING!!!! Observe:

The first thing to note is that I have a mini laptop that allows me to have easy access to this little hobby from room to room. However, before we purchased this laptop a couple of years ago and we still used the desktop in the office, I would just start a picture loading and then pop in every once in a while to see if it were ready for the next picture to be started.
First, I write the little prologue that introduces what the post will be about, then I start the pictures loading (one by one) while I begin my duties around the house... some of which are shown below that I did while working on the "Working Cattle" post: |
|
I can easy get the breakfast or our baking dishes done.... |
|
...start a load of laundry washing or drying, but more often I'm folding laundry while pictures are loading. Its hard to notice, but the dryer timer is on.
(Please don't judge me on my littered dryer top! Josh goes through work clothes so quickly that after folding the laundry, I just put his work clothes pile on top of the dryer for ease of access to him; this way, he finds socks and long underwear much quicker without having to dig through the cupboard.)

If I have a post to do, I'll often start a picture loading while I walk on the treadmill. The computer sits across the room on the end table and I can easy see if one picture is finished and another needs started. Then I just hop off for a few seconds, start a new picture and continue on the treadmill. There's my little man, posing to help me with the picture!

On this particular day, the kids were going to help me make lunch. So, with the computer in the kitchen, we were able to make the pizzas and keep an eye on the progress. |
|
At the same time, I made dough for cherry/strawberry-cherry pastries Josh and the kids were going to have for breakfast the next morning. We made the pizzas while the dough rose....
|
|
Then made the pastries, while STILL loading pictures.
There are many other things that can be done while posting: often times, I do the bookwork while pictures come up, play a game with the kids or do Sarah's "school" time in the morning, coupon, dust/sweep/vacuum... any sort of thing. The issue that takes up most of the time blogging (in my experience, anyway) is loading the pictures because writing the prologue and the captions take very little time. So, since I can very easily keep myself busy with chores during the duration of working on a post, it just as easily comes together without having to sit down for very long to do it. |
