The pool is not an option for us. It costs too much, it is too far away for us country folk, none of us can swim and I can't help but to think of what foreign matter it may contain (if you know what I mean). If we stay home, we avoid all those issues, PLUS we have a bathroom and all-we-need-to-eat snacks at our disposal at anytime. Last year, I found a bargain water slide and with the hot and humid weather the past couple of days brought, it was the perfect time to break it out and put it to good use!

This was the very first time the kids have been in their water attire this year. They were beyond excited! But the real reason I took this picture was to show off our true rednecked nature: notice their lovely socks and crocs? Yes, we play in the water with them ON. I have found thistles, glass and other sharp objects of all varieties all over the yard. And having had a very traumatizing experience in my early childhood involving my big toe, a piece of glass and a needle, I figure we are better safe than sorry. We forego worries of not being up on the latest fashion and stick with the crocs and socks. I'm sure their big toes will one day thank me. |

The slide. It has a sprinkler set up along the whole one side and then a little blowup pool on the end that catches the water for the slider to land in. |
Caleb remembered the slide from the few times we used it last year and wasted no time in using it. Sarah, however, does not like to be surprised. So the water sprinklers made it out of the question for her.... |
...she chose instead to try to catch the water in the shovel she brought from the sandbox. Whatever, as long as she is having fun! |
Showing off for Daddy. I called him down from the shop to come check out what we were doing. It was 9:30 in the morning by the way. We played over an hour in the morning and then started it back up again in the afternoon for who knows how long. |
And then Daddy, being the genius that he is, reminded me of the trick that we used last year: all I had to do was turn the water from the hose down a bit and the sprinkles would be more Sarah's style. I KNEW there was a reason I married him, other than his rugged good looks and loads of cash, that is :-) ! So, we tamed down the water pressure and thus the sprinklers... |
...and Sarah joined right in with the fun with Caleb and I. |
The most fun was of what I couldn't take pictures of without a third hand. The kids love it when I grab their hands or feet and sling them down the slide. The screams and giggles I got in return were totally worth the slight kink in my back I got from being the power behind the human slingshot. And just as soon as I post this latest blog entry, we will be on our way back out to make another memorable afternoon playing in the water...
