Gettin' All Fancied Up

Saturday, May 7, brought the Eddyville Public Library's Fancy Nancy party for area girls.  "Fancy Nancy" is a line of books for young ladies about a little girl who searches through her house for fancy things to dress up in.  Everything from lamp shades to her daddy's tube socks and anything in between is creatively turned into an accessory to her fabulously created, often royal, getups.  Several ladies volunteer to make it a special day for the young ladies, manning stations like a salon where the girls get their nails painted, a makeup parlor where they have their makeup done and a runway where they're taught how to walk and then get a pretty picture taken.  There were some other stations, too, like a little cafe with petite, girly goodies to nibble and a shopping area where they could "purchase" girly things like rings, tierras and necklaces with supplied play money.

All fancied up, complete with tierras, scarfs, curls and fancy dresses.  The party was "no boys allowed", so we were able to get Josh to snap a quick picture when he came to pick up Caleb to work with the men for the morning.

The event was held at the highschool's cafeteria.  Sarah wasn't too sure of all the action going on around her, most of the time keeping her head down in her shy little way.  But she did look up for one quick snap.

Each little lady received a gift bag prefilled with a "Fancy Nancy" book and play money to buy things with in the gift shop.

Our first stop was the cafe, where the girls and their accompanying ladies (moms, grandmas, aunts, sisters...) were treated with pretty cupcakes and cheese cubes, grapes and oranges on fancy toothpicks and pretty purple punch.

The next stop was the make up and nail stop... where Grandma just happen to be volunteering!

Lookin' pretty!
(Grandma was our "in" for the party... the age limit started at age three, but we visit the library pretty regularly and since Grandma Rhonda was helping, we were given an exception.)

And the last picture before the camera batteries died.  The girls made what I call fairy hats.  Sarah thoroughly enjoyed the "all-you-can-use stickers!" that she was supplied with to decorate.

We had a lot of fun!  How often does someone get a chance to dress up and go out in public without feeling completely silly?  Well, almost without feeling completely silly...I felt my cheeks grow a little red when I had to pump gas on main street in Eddyville in a Cinderella dress, but oh well.  We had a fun time and came home with a great gift bag of goodies!
