The Rest of Saturday

The weather was beautiful Saturday afternoon, so we spent all day outside.  After selling the piggies with Josh, we came home to do some more domestic jobs.  After a tractor ride (work for Josh, fun for us) and coffeetime, we left Josh alone to get some not-so-kid-friendly work done while the kids and I planted some of the early flowers.

My arms are long...but not quite long enough to get all of all of us in the picture.  But here is part of all of us, all squished in the tractor cab.  Josh was on his way to set up a system to start spreading manure, which happened to be from his parents' hoghouse.   Which explains how...

...Sarah got in the swing at Grandma Rhonda's house.  She could swing ALL DAY if we let her!  When Sarah and Caleb both were babies, I thought about buying  a swing to hang in one of our trees.  But I never found one at the right price at the right time.  So I never got around to buying one.  Now I'm kind of glad that my luck was so bad because if we had one now I would never get anything done outside besides pushing Sarah in her swing!

After catching a ride home, we got all our stuff ready to plant flowers.  We have a really pretty tree along side our driveway that I've always thought would look lovely with flowers under it, all the way around.  I'm slowly teaching myself about flowers through trial and error, but I finally learned that Lilies of the Valley grow well in shady areas.   So we're gonna try it.

Dig...plant...pat.  The kids did a good job, though Sarah wasn't too sure about getting her hands dirty.

All done planting and time to go in.  They packed up their gardening backpacks (a gift from our Sunday School co-teacher...Thanks, Mrs. Debbie!) and away they go.  We planted several lilies and a few gladiolus, but the kids were just plain pooped and needed to go in.  It was almost 7:00 anyway.

And I saved my favorite for last.  Aren't we sweet :-)
