First Day at School

Friday, April 8, was Caleb's day of Preschool Roundup.  For those of you who don't know what that is, its a day the Preschool teachers set aside to bring in the next year's preschoolers, introduce themselves to the parents and kids, do a very general assessment on the children and allow the parents to register their kid for the next school year.  Caleb was very excited and I was very curious about how well Caleb would do (for those of you who do not know Caleb personally, he is pretty hesitant around adults, especially ones he doesn't know).  We met in the Eddyville Elementary's school library, Caleb was whisked away and I was given a stack of papers.  I did okay... but the look on Caleb's face just about broke my heart.  He was so unsure and nervous, but he didn't cry because we had really discussed being a big boy for his new teachers.  (That, and he was bribed with a stop at Casey's to get a candy bar and pop if he did "good" and answered the questions for the teachers.)

Well, he did good.  And afterward, we were given a special tour of both preschool rooms and Caleb was given a "gift" of long yellow butcher's (bulletin board) paper - scrapes the teacher had from doing a bulletin board between roundup sessions.  He thought he was pretty special!  And yes, he earned his bri...um...I mean reward.  He picked out a Mounds bar and 7Up for himself and asked to get Sarah something too since she felt bad about being left home (when we left, she was screaming and crying...I hear a round of foot stomping came soon after before she finally settled down for a nap).  So he picked out M&Ms for her.  And, being on a roll of picking out candy, picked out a Snickers for Daddy.

So, even though this wasn't his first day OF school, we're considering it his first day AT school...and we're mighty proud of him because we know what a great accomplishment it was for Caleb!

There's my boy!
